Reiki FAQ
What is Reiki?

Reiki is a method of stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. Developed in Japan, Reiki is based on the idea that all living things have a special energy flowing through them called life energy (qi). When your life energy is high, you’ll feel strong and confident, be more relaxed and centered, and less likely to get sick. When it is low, you’ll often feel tired, stressed, and less resistant to illness. A Reiki treatment is a way of increasing your life energy. and promotes deep relaxation. It works to clear blocked energy and allow the body's natural healing energy to flow.

What is Distance Reiki?

Distance Reiki treatments are just as effective as in-person treatments. Distance Reiki works according to the Hermetic Law of Similarity, which holds that we are all connected, as we are all energy matter and part of a larger whole. For clients who can't physically attend a Reiki session or those who don't live close to a practitioner, distance Reiki sessions are an ideal alternative to an in-person session. Especially now, when we are experiencing a global pandemic, Distance Reiki is ideally suited to promoting relaxation, calmness, and healing. During a distance Reiki session, the recipient should sit or lay comfortably in a quiet room with as few distractions as possible. The practitioner will use specific techniques to send the Reiki energy over any distance.

What happens during a Reiki session?

Arrive 5-10 minutes before your session to complete paperwork and review any areas of concern. No clothing is removed during a Reiki session, so wear comfortable clothes. You will only be asked to remove your shoes and coat. You will lay on a Reiki table, or for clients with limited mobility, you may choose to sit in a chair. The practitioner will place her hands on or above the body in various positions throughout the session to transmit Reiki energy. Reiki is different from massage, there is no physical manipulation. Some clients feel warm or cold, some feel tingles, some feel deep relaxation. The experience can be different for everyone. Once the session concludes, there will be a short debriefing and clients are instructed to drink plenty of water throughout the rest of the day.
